Forbes did a survey of 60,000 Americans and 22% said they visited Google Plus every month, the same number of users as Twitter and more users than LinkedIn, Pinterest, or Instagram. Additionally, Forbes claims that on average top brands have collected 90% as many fans on Google Plus as on Twitter, and the brands they studies had more followers on G+ than on YouTube, Instagram, and Pinterest combined. If your company isn’t active on Google Plus, it’s time to get on it.
Setting up circles:
Circles are ways to connect with customers, employees, industry influencers and other companies. When someone is browsing content on G+, they can jump into a circle and view the posts shared by the users of that circle. Google Plus allows you to customize the names and number of circles you have in order to create a unique brand. Add influential people, especially locals, to your circles and engage with them to get noticed.
Authorship:
A study by Moz found that listings that include authorship on Google search results are more likely to be clicked regardless of their location on the page. Content contributors should set up authorship for their blogs, this will increase exposure for your company and SEO.
Posting:
Make sure the titles of the posts are interesting enough for people to click on them. The first sentence of the post should also be trying to “hook” readers because that is the post’s title tag, one of the most important factors on click-through-rate. Be sure to include the most relevant keywords.
When posting a link use the link feature because search engines measure the link inserted via the “Link” button. Sharing articles on Google Plus has been correlated with faster indexation of those pages on your website. Google has shown favor to sites with fresh content.
You can edit posts even after they were published! For content writers, this is a great feature. Fix that typo you missed or add additional content after receiving feedback.
There are some formatting features you probably don’t know about. When creating a social post, surrounding a word or phrase in * will bold it, an underscore will italicize it, and a dash will create a strikethrough.
*Isn’t* will appear as Isn’t
_This_ will appear as This
-Neat- will appear as Neat
Microblogging is an option because Google Plus does not limit characters in a post. Feel free to take a paragraph out of a post and post it with a link to the article or post all of the content of an article. Try different things and see what attracts followers.
Take advantage of the circles feature and share your posts strategically. Some posts you may only want customers to see and others only industry influencers. See what works for you.
Get people to share and promote your posts with the +1 button. Comment on other people’s posts to promote your brand. Interact with your followers.
Hangouts:
Google’s hangout feature allows you to have a conversation in real time. This can be a great tool to communicate with customers and team members. You can also record a video and post it to Google Plus.
