Say goodbye to “Google Webmaster Tools,” and welcome “Google Search Console.” After a decade of being known as Google Webmaster Tools, Google has decided to make very well strategic change by rebranding to Google Search Console.
As we have recently seen, Google is a huge believer in user-friendliness for all their services. See “Do You Have a Website? Read Now, Before It’s Too Late” to see Googles other recent user-friendly changes.
So what is the purpose of rebranding the name, you might ask. This awesome tool wasn’t designed only for web developers, programmers, or IT experts, but also for the regular user who wants to know details of their site. Google decided to make a modification to include a wide variety of users based on its name, and with very few features included. Here’s what Michael Fink, product manager of Google Search Console had to say:
“It turns out that the traditional idea of the “webmaster” reflects only some of you. We have all kinds of Webmaster Tools fans: hobbyists, small business owners, SEO experts, marketers, programmers, designers, app developers, and, of course, webmasters as well. What you all share is a desire to make your work available online, and to make it findable through Google Search. So, to make sure that our product includes everyone who cares about Search, we’ve decided to rebrand Google Webmaster Tools as Google Search Console.”
Besides rebranding the name, Google has added two new features in support of apps.
- Fetch as Google, which is a tool to diagnose a URL with Googlebot to check or debug suspected network connectivity or security issues.
- Search Analytics, a tool that reflects on how often a site has appeared on Google search results. With these results you can see where these results came from and even what time these searches where made. Detailed information that will help out with marketing strategies.
These two new features are in support of android apps to see how searchers are discovering the content within the page being navigated. This is a huge support to those who own an app and would like to know detailed information of top queries, pages, and know traffic trends and use to their advantage.
As Google thrives to be user-friendliness, we should anticipate many more features to be added into Google Search Console in the near future in support of Android apps.
