Categorizing and Ranking a Business Online

March 11, 2015E-Commerce, General, Marketing, Social MarketingMOTIONBORG

Local businesses have realized that the internet is an essential tool to promoting their business and attract new clients to show their services. It is important to understand that listing a business is not good enough, unless the business wants to be left behind in the cracks. What exactly does this mean? This means that businesses from mama-and-papa stores to large corporations need to categorize themselves accurately on the internet in order to increase customer flow. For example, if someone wanted to order a pizza and googled Bob’s pizzeria, and your business is an IT consulting business. You wouldn’t want to show up in this search as it would almost be pointless for the viewer but also for the business to appear, this would be a weak candidate trying to turn into a customer.

Knowing how to categorize a business listing properly and maximizing every source possible will increase traffic in most cases.  As a company builds a strong categorization for themselves and easily found, these viewers are likely to become customers, and customers will become followers. Followers’ online will reflect on the reputation of a business, this being significant as an increase of services and orders online are increasing throughout the years. Followers tend to write reviews based on their experience whether it was a positive or a negative experience. These reviews will uild trends on what customers think of this particular business and what pros and cons one should know if thinking of doing business with them. Possible new customers like to know prior experiences of someone else without a bias opinion, as this will influence their decision whether they should try this new location or keep looking for another place to shop.

The purpose of creating a local listing is to make a business visible to the public and increase the traffic flow of the location. That being said, some websites such as Yelp, Google Local, Bing, Yellow Pages, and Local.com are great sources that offer local businesses the ability to promote their services online. These sites give the option of being able to categorize using detailed words in order to help their viewers find what they need as quickly as possible and able to rank businesses based on reviews and searches that have been made.

Typically a company with good reviews will receive a high ranking search, meaning the business is likely to appear within the first page of searching that particular category word. Ranking will determine the inflow of a company from their customer traffic flow to a reflection in their revenue accounts. Studies show that the seeker is likely to pick a provider within the first page of conducting its search, giving approximately the top 10 providers the opportunity to build a new customer.

Succeeding in these few steps can pump up performance to revenue, merely by improving categorization. This will determine the ranking and influencing the traffic, so use your words carefully when listing a business.
